Funding Government
Forced funding is simply thievery. People tend to not like people stealing from them. People tend to enjoy knowing they are part of a good cause and often feel proud when they can give their financial support to a good cause. Therefore let us work toward a government run by willing donations instead of taxes. Even if we aren't ready to make the full leap at once there are simple things we can do to start heading in the right direction.
The first step is to set up a decent system for donations. Where people are willing to donate would help dictate the importance of different parts of government. It would help bring the power of the purse back to the people. A portion of each donation going toward a top fund would help allow the donation system that would still allow funds to be divided out through the traditional system.
As people would get more of a say in how their funds would be used they would be more inclined to see how much they can give to what they believe in instead of trying to find a tax shelter to protect themselves from thievery. It could trigger the change to a more abundant lifestyle brought on by the synergy of people working together. You could even add purchasable items of revenue that allow people to show what they support such as pins, bumper stickers, flags, t-shirts, plaques, naming rights, etc. denoting that they donated at least a certain amount.
One of the great things about opening up donations to specific funds of government funded things is that it brings back some of the power of the purse to the people instead of in the hands of people that might be bribed with lesser amounts of money to control the flow of larger amounts of money.
A possible second stage of progress might depend on the results of the first stage. While it is possible the first stage could have enough success that people would directly consider abolishing taxes it is more likely other stages may be necessary. One advancement might be to allow a certain portion of existing mandated taxes to be put toward specific funds according to the desires of the person being taxed. Not that long ago setting up a system allowing for these types of changes would have been largely complicated and costly. But with computers a lot of this can be done more simply.
