Education
Education is the root of change. To make the world a better place we must educate people. Not merely for them to regurgitate fact but to be able to critically think for themselves. We must foster creativity so that we may find better ways to do things.
From a young age we should be teaching people how to debate both sides, including debating for things that we personally are not for. When you learn to debate a side you don't agree with or believe in it can open your eyes and certainly helps you gain critical thinking skills. Diplomacy should be a core curriculum from early on.
Public Education is important to the amicable way of life. In today's world one can not simply separate from those they disagree with. Therefore it is imperative that we learn to get along with those we disagree with. Most private schools lack the direct exposure to diversity provided by public schools. Learning in an environment with various cultural beliefs helps open peoples minds to paradigms they wouldn't otherwise have any understanding of. Whether or not we like it we are together on this planet and can only do a little to separate out into people that all believe the same.
We need to break away from the idea that education is something formal taught in schools. Schools can have their places but don't always prove to be the best at teaching. We need to change the focus of education from standardization and realize that varying strengths is what gives our society more power. We need to embrace that it is fine for different paces of learning. We need to return to accepting learning through apprenticeships. We need to get away from fitting schooling into any set number years.
